The Single Most Important Object In The Global Economy

Updated: May 28, 2020

What is the single most important object in the global economy someone might ask? The Pallet. Believe it or not, some 80 percent of all U.S. commerce is carried on pallets. Pallets are so widespread that they account for more than 46 percent of all U.S. hardwood lumber production.

So what are pallets, anyway? Pallets are flat transport structures that are used to carry goods. Pallets are used to stack, store, protect, and transport materials in the course of being handled by equipment such as forklifts, pallet-jacks or conveyors, being stored in racking or bulk storage or being positioned in transport vehicles. To summarize, they are purely used for handling goods and have high storage efficiency.

There are different type of pallets like wood and plastic pallets. Plastic pallets can be easily molded, but they give out toxic fumes when they are burnt. In contrast, there are wooden pallets which are durable and they can easily be recycled. The wooden pallet industry is about as green as it gets, almost nothing is wasted.

Pallets not only offer a way to ship your product, but to store it effectively between locations. For example, if you have a warehouse and need to put a customer shipment on an airplane, where it will then be transported by truck to another warehouse, a pallet is the best option.

Pallet delivery involves placing goods or containers on a pallet; securing them using strapping, stretch wrap or shrink wrap; and transporting them to their destination. Most pallets can easily carry a load of over 2,000 lbs, so they make the movement of heavy stacks much easier.
